Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville's Danielle Della Rocca finished with a game-high four goals despite her team's 10-9 overtime loss to Towson on Saturday in non-conference women's lacrosse action. The Tigers end the Dolphins' five-game win streak at Southern Oak Stadium, with the last loss at the facility coming exactly three years ago (15-4 to Florida on Feb. 13, 2013).
Della Rocca has scored 19 goals in her last five games dating back to last year.
After a scramble for the ball in front of the Dolphins' net between a total of six players from both teams, Carly Tellekamp was able to gain possession for the Tigers and score the game-winner with 1:38 left in extra time.
"Both teams received votes on the Inside Lacrosse poll (coming into the game) and were going at it toe to tie," Jacksonville coach Mindy McCord said. "In many ways it came back to who had the ball last, but we couldn't possess it.
"ESPN3 viewers got their money's worth today (with a great game). Towson has a great team and coaches."
After Towson (2-0) staked to a 2-0 advantage on goals by Tellekamp, Della Rocca scored three-straight goals for Jacksonville (0-2) in a 3:06 span. The two teams then traded goals before the Tigers scored three-straight to lead 6-4 following a Katie Sciandra shot that found the back of the net.
The Dolphins answered with back-to-back goals to tie the affair. A Taylor McCord to Della Rocca connection with 3:45 to play before halftime cut the deficit to one. The duo hooked up for their second scoring chance Saturday after McCord assisted on Della Rocca's first goal at the 23:40 mark. MacEllen McDonough knotted the game at six 53 seconds later when she tallied a man-up goal with an assist by Kelsey Wiglesworth.
Michelle Gildea countered with a free position goal for Towson just 16 second before intermission, and the Tigers led by one at the break.
Trailing 8-6 with 24:33 to go in regulation, Wiglesworth, with an assist by Rachel Aus, scored the first of three-straight Dolphin goals. Amelia Pedwell tied the contest at eight with 14:20 on the clock before Wiglesworth gave Jacksonville its last lead, 9-8, at the 12:01 mark on a man-down goal, her second of the day, that was aided by Kelly Lacy.
Emily Gillingham's third goal Saturday for the Tigers with 10:17 to play in the second half sent the game into overtime, and Tellekamp's third goal of the day ended the match.
Sciandra finished with two goals.
McCord produced goal in addition to two assists. Abby Remenapp had one assist.
Goalkeeper Angie Benson (2-0) made eight saves for the Tigers.
Netminder Kaylyn Kearns (0-2) had five stops for the Dolphins.
Each team recorded 19 shots. Towson was 15-of-18 on clear attempts, while Jacksonville was 14-of-16.
"Our mission in February is to rapidly grow," M. McCord said. "We accomplished that goal but didn't get the win and need to keep building on this. We hope to continue to grow our younger players against Wales. We played 10 underclassmen today and hope to continue to build our experience."
The Dolphins host the Wales National Team in an exhibition on Monday at 4 p.m. ET at Southern Oak Stadium.
