Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University softball continued play in the Dolphin Invitational Saturday, defeating Penn State, 6-0.
Both Danielle Baker and Ciara Jones finished 2-for-4 at the plate while Victoria Brown and Brooke Smith added two RBIs each.
Brown also earned her third win of the season, and handed Penn State its first loss of the tournament on six hits and four strikeouts.
"This was an awesome bounce-back win after last night's loss to Radford," said Head Coach Jennifer Steele. "We just made a few offensive adjustments, and I'm so proud of the girls for attacking pitches today."
Emily Sanchez was inches away from tagging a grand slam in the bottom of the first. The near hit had everyone at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Complex on their feet before slicing just left of the foul pole. In the next inning, Heather Roberts' solo shot to right center earned the Dolphins their first run of the game.
Scoring continued in the fourth after Jones and Allie McCourt bunted their way on base to join Roberts. Back-to-back walks stretched the Dolphins' advantage to 3-0, and the bases remained loaded for Brown before she brought two home with a single up the middle.
Jacksonville scored its final run on the speed of Baker who reached base with her second triple of the night. Smith recorded the RBI on a sacrifice fly.
