Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An offensive outburst of 28 runs and 30 hits over two games propelled Jacksonville to a doubleheader sweep of Mount St. Mary's by scores of 15-7 and 13-2 Saturday at John Sessions Stadium.
"It was a great opportunity for so many guys to get their feet wet, especially our freshmen," said Head Coach Tim Montez. "Parker Perez did a great job both games setting the table and that's what he does. Our starting pitchers did a good job of attacking the zone and pounding it early."
The Dolphins (2-0) raced out to an early lead in game one with a five-run first inning. Sam Armstrong, Nate Ricci, and JJ Gould each drove in a run in the inning while Angel Camacho's first career hit was a two-run single.
Austin Hays hit his first of two homers in the second inning with a shot out to left field. Hays would finish game one a perfect 4-4 with five RBI and three runs scored, and went 5-9 with three doubles, two home runs, and seven RBI on the day.
"It was good to see Hays relax and do what he can do," said Montez.
The Dolphins posted four runs in the third thanks to a balk, Camacho double, and another two-run dinger by Hays.
Franco Guardascione belted his first homer in a Dolphin uniform with a towering blast off the left field light pole in the fourth inning, and would later pick up an RBI double in the seventh.
In total, Jacksonville pounded out 15 hits and hung Mount St. Mary's (0-2) starter Conner Graber (0-1) with the loss. Graber went 2.2 innings with eight earned runs off eight hits.
Dolphin starter Nathan Disch (1-0) was dominant in garnering the victory with no runs on two hits over 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. Ryan Granda, Mike Schappell, and Ryan Quintero each pitched at least an inning in relief.
Game two
The offense again roughed up Mountaineer pitching while Jacksonville starter Spencer Stockton (1-0) pitched 5.2 innings and allowed one run on four hits and struck out six batters.
The Dolphins scored in every inning but the sixth and were paced by Parker Perez, who went 3-4 with a home run and two RBI. Camacho, Gould, and Hays also drove in two, while Sam Armstrong, Evan Fernandez, Seth DeWitt, and Alex Seifert each had two hits in the game.
Kyle Arjona pitched 3.1 innings in relief for his first save by allowing two hits and posting six strikeouts.
Mountaineer starter Kevin Myers (0-1) took the loss with five runs on five hits in three innings.
Jacksonville looks for the series sweep at home tomorrow with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
