Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Spencer Stockton tossed six scoreless innings and Jacksonville outscored Toledo, 5-1, to take the weekend series Sunday at Sessions Stadium.
"That was a good answer-back win. We challenged these guys in the locker room before the game to make a statement today," said Head Coach Tim Montez. "We played all three phases well and a lot of credit goes to how they came back and played. We've got a lot of baseball coming up and we will be road warriors."
Stockton (2-0) went six shutout innings and scattered six hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
"I was able to force a lot of contact and let my defense pick me up. I wanted to throw the ball, let them swing, and it worked out well for our team," said Stockton.
Jacksonville (10-4) followed a similar recipe by scoring first with a pair of runs in the first inning. With the bases full, Connor Stephens singled up the middle with two outs to bring home Austin Hays and Nathan Koslowski. Hays had previously reached on a walk and Koslowski singled through the right side.
The Dolphins tacked on two more in the third with another two-out rally. Sam Armstrong singled to right and was followed by a Gould double to left. Stephens, who finished the day 2-4 with three RBI, then singled to shortstop and Armstrong scored. During the next at-bat, Gould and Stephens pulled off a successful double steal and Jacksonville took a 4-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, Dakota Julylia doubled to the left field gap off reliever Caleb Schillace to score Fernandez. Jacksonville totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.
Toledo (2-13-1) scored its first run of the game off reliever Ryan Granda with a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Dan Zuchowski.
Granda worked two innings in relief and gave up the run off one hit and had one strikeout.
Kyle Arjona faced the minimum in the ninth inning.
