Box Score JACKSONVILE, Fla. – Falling 7-1 in Sunday's rubber match, Jacksonville University dropped its Atlantic Sun-opening series to Kennesaw State at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex.
Both teams scored a run in the opening frame as Heather Roberts tagged it over the centerfield wall to tie things at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning. The solo shot improved her season's total to seven, a team-high and a mark ranked fourth in the conference.
After Danielle Baker's single in the bottom of the third, Logan Viers retired eight consecutive hitters.
Baker capped the streak with a leadoff-single up the middle in the sixth, and made her way to third base on a single by Victoria Brown and full-count walk by Emily Sanchez.
The Dolphins had two outs against them before Sanchez' appearance at the plate, and left all three runners stranded after a called strike three on the next at-bat.
Kennesaw State recorded a 3-1 advantage in the top of the third, and stretched it in the seventh by starting the inning with three straight singles. Courtney Sutter cleared the bases with a grand slam.
In the decision, Jacksonville fell to 16-16 and 1-2 in the A-Sun.
The Dolphins travel to Tennessee Tuesday for a single game with the No. 16 Volunteers before closing the stretch with a three-game series at Lipscomb.
