Box Score

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook offense scored a flurry of goals midway through the first half to break open the game and the 12th/14th-ranked Seawolves rolled past Jacksonville University, 16-6, in women's lacrosse Thursday.

SBU (5-3), of the America East Conference, pulled out to a 2-0 lead before JU's Danielle Della Rocca put the Dolphins (4-4) on the board with 23:33 to play in the first half.

The Seawolves struck again with 18:43 in the half when Dorrien Van Dyke scored and on the ensuing draw Samantha DiSalvo scored only 13 seconds later. SBU scored a third consecutive goal 21 seconds after that for a 5-1 lead and was on its way to snapping JU's four-game win streak.

SBU's Kylie Ohlmiller scored her third goal of the game with 16:54 to go in the half for a 6-1 lead before JU's Lillie Miller connected at the 13:33 mark to make it 6-2. Ohlmiller struck again with 8:43 to play and a 7-2 lead.

JU's Sally Holbert connected with 3:17 to go to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Kelsey Wiglesworth, Jaime Chapman and Erin McGuire added a goals for JU in the second half but the Dolphins were outscored 9-3 in the half.

"It's tough to take positives from this game,'' JU Head Coach Mindy McCord said. "Their shooters were great and their goalie was solid. We didn't get the draw worked out until it was too late and an off day in the cage hurt us.''

SBU peppered Dolphin goalies with 29 shots at JU got off 17 in the game. The JU defense caused six of SBU's 16 turnovers with both sophomore Ashtyn Hiron and junior Hannah Wilcox causing two each.

"We have been working hard in practices but that did not translate to success tonight,'' McCord said. "Sometimes you need a stop or two to build momentum. We will get better tomorrow.''

For the Seawolves, Ohlmiller ended the game with five goals and three assists and Van Dyke had four goals and an assist.

The Dolphins return to action Saturday as the travel to Central Connecticut State University for an 11 a.m. game.
