Box Score NEW BRITIAN, Conn. -- Jacksonville University scored 12 first half goals and senior midfielder Kelsey Wiglesworth had four goals on the day as the Dolphins got back in the win column in a big way beating Central Connecticut State, 18-3, here Saturday.
The Dolphins (5-4), coming off a 16-6 loss to nationally ranked Stony Brook Thursday, took control early with four goals in the first three minutes to start the rout against the Blue Devils (0-7).
JU's Jaime Chapman, one of four Dolphins who scored at least three goals during the game, led off with the first of her hat trick day when she connected just 27 seconds into the game on an assist from Wiglesworth.
Junior Danielle Della Rocca that slammed home two scores during the third minute of play. Following Della Rocca's second score with 27:34 to play in the opener, Wiglesworth made it 5-0 a mere 12 seconds later as the Dolphins scored 12 times in the first half.
Along with Chapman's hat trick and Wiglesworth's four goals, senior Taylor McCord and sophomore Ashtyn Hiron each had three scores.
Della Rocca ended that day with two goals, MacEllen McDonough, Amelia Pedwell and Lilly Miller all added to the total.
"We played a good game in transition, passed the ball and defended well today,'' JU assistant coach Paul McCord said. "CCSU had a solid defense, so starting with 12 goals was key. Two seniors stepped up and gave us a boost. Kelsey and Taylor shot 7-for-9 which takes the pressure off the other shooters.''
Defender Kristin Ridenour, who had an assist, a ground ball and a caused turn over, drew McCord's eye.
"She had an outstanding road trip,'' McCord said. "She's emerging as a top player nationally.''
JU attempts to defend its Atlantic Sun Conference championship beginning Friday with a trip to Kennesaw State followed two days later at Mercer.
"These non-league games have helped prepare us for the ASun which gets more competitive each year,'' McCord said. "We are excited for Easter off and some time to reflect on the year so far.''
