Box Score GREENVILLE, N.C. – Dakota Julylia matched a season-high with two hits, but Jacksonville fell to No.19 East Carolina, 13-0, Saturday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
"That was a disappointing performance coming off a very emotional and well-played game last night," said Head Coach Tim Montez. "For the first time this season, we did not perform in any of the three phases of the game."
ECU (16-8) rode an Eric Tyler three-run home run in the first inning and never looked back. The long ball was the first of three hit by the Pirates to clinch the series. Garrett Brooks hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to extend the Pirate lead to 5-0.
The hosts plated three runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, fielding error, and RBI walk. The biggest damage was done in the eighth inning when the Pirates struck for five runs capped by a Tyler grand slam.
Jacksonville (15-8) had two hits from both Julylia and JJ Gould, and Mike Cassala and Seth DeWitt each added a single.
Jimmy Boyd (3-1) was the winning pitcher with only four hits, all singles, in seven innings. Boyd walked a pair of batters and struck out three. Chris Holba and Denny Brady each pitched an inning in relief.
Spencer Stockton (3-1) took his first loss of the season with five runs on six hits, two walks, and a strikeout in four innings. The Dolphins used six pitchers in relief, with the duo of Jeff Tanner and Mike Schappell combining to be the most effective with two hits and no walks over 2.1 scoreless innings.
"Good programs don't get swept on the road to nationally-ranked teams. We put a win up there yesterday and have to put this game behind us. The schedule doesn't get easier with a very good UCF team on Tuesday," said Montez.
