Jacksonville split a four-game series with three-time Ivy League champ Columbia, including a pair of extra-inning losses. Most recently, JU fell 5-4 on Sunday in 11 innings.
Chris Gau began his relief appearance in the fourth inning and nearly came away with a win, but allowed the tying run to score with two outs in the ninth on a single to left field by Robb Paller. Parker Perez then replaced Gau from centerfield and closed the ninth with a groundout to first basemen Angel Camacho. Perez pitched 1.2 innings and allowed only one hit, which was leadoff, 11th inning single. John Kinne then singled off Shane Wise down the left field line to give Columbia the lead. Perez took the loss while Gau scattered seven hits over 5.2 innings and gave up just one run. He issued no walks and tallied three strikeouts.
Jacksonville answered the three runs of Columbia's first innings with three runs itself in the home half of the inning. Perez led off with a single through the left side that ran his hitting streak to nine games, and Austin Hays then blasted his fourth home run of the year. Nathan Koslowski doubled, stole third, and was driven in by a JJ Gould single.
