Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. – Junior Danielle Della Rocca scored a hat trick a little more than eight minutes into the game and she and teammate Jaime Chapman had five goals each as Jacksonville University opened its Atlantic Sun Conference play crushing Kennesaw State 22-4 here Friday.

Della Rocca, from Mount Sinai, N.Y., got the Dolphins (6-4, 1-0) off and running by scoring just one minute, 45 seconds into the game, the 100th goal of her collegiate career. It didn't take JU long to start breaking the game open after that as they scored four goals in a little more than two minutes.

Junior attacker Rachel Aus connected with 24:59 to play in the first half and 20 seconds later Ashtyn Hiron took a pass from freshman Erin McGuire for a 3-0 lead.

Della Rocca then scored at the 23:50 mark on an assist from Aus, followed that at 22:52 with her third goal of the game and the rout was on.

The Dolphins rolled on building a 13-0 lead before KSU's Jackie Kisthardt got her team on the board with 3:25 to play in the half. Aus and midfielder Jaime Chapman added two more goals for a 15-1 halftime lead.

JU continued to show itself as a balanced scoring machine as seven different players scored in the first half alone and 10 got in on the act for the game.

"It was, at times, as good a lacrosse game as w have played since we've been at JU,'' associate head coach Paul McCord said. "It was exciting to see the hard work pay off. The team has battled through a lot this season and we have come together nicely.''

Aus, Hiron, freshman Amelia Pedwell and Hannah Wilcox each had two goals while Kelly Lacy, Taylor McCord, Lillie Miller and Jody Julmice each had one. Aus and McGuire each had two assists while Chapman, Miller and Julmice added helpers.

"Our first group was very sharp, our second group looked good and our third line competed and battled well,'' McCord said.

JU got 38 shots off while the defense held the Owls to 12 attempts. JU defensive star Kristin Ridenour had three ground balls and 14 Dolphins contributed to the team's 22.

JU goalies Kaylyn Kearns, Mariah Cudlipp and Kristen Brunoforte combined for six saves.

"Our keepers all did well,'' McCord said. "Every time our goalies get called upon they respond.''

The Dolphins travel to Mercer Sunday for a noon contest.
