Errors Prove to be the Difference in USC Upstate Finale

Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Jacksonville University softball team fell, 3-0, in its series finale with USC Upstate Sunday. While Jacksonville outhit its opponent, 4-3, errors were the difference maker as all three runs were scored on Dolphin miscues.

A two-out error allowed Upstate to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Prior to the mishandle, senior pitcher Victoria Brown had retired the first six batters she faced. She walked the first two Spartans to leadoff the third before recording a groundout and strikeout.

The Spartans (32-11, 6-5 Atlantic Sun) tacked on their final run on a fielding error in the next frame.

Brown worked six innings, and allowed three hits while fanning four. Allie McCourt went 2-for-3 at the plate.

After 10-straight games on the road, Jacksonville (18-24, 2-7 A-Sun) returns to the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex Wednesday in a doubleheader against Florida A&M.
