Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Six players scored two goals each Friday as the Jacksonville University women's lacrosse team continued its trek toward the Atlantic Sun Conference title by beating Central Michigan University, 18-4, at Mount Pleasant, Mich.
The Dolphins (10-4, 5-0) extended their winning streak to six games and 10 of 11 as they took control early before putting away the young Chippewas.
A pair of freshmen, Erin McGuire and Lilly Miller, got the Dolphins off and running as they each scored within the first two minutes of the game. With the JU transition game running on all cylinders, Miller and Rachel Aus scored to put the Dolphins up 4-0 before CMU got on the board.
The Dolphins rolled throughout the first half and as time wound down scored three goals in a 15-second span and took a 12-3 lead to halftime over the outmanned Chippewas, a first-year program with 24 freshmen on the roster.
McGuire, Miller, Aus, Taylor McCord, Ashtyn Hiron and Danielle Della Rocca all had two-goal games and Jody Julmice, Amelia Pedwell, Kelly Lacy, Sally Holbert, Hannah Wilcox and Jaime Chapman all scored.
In addition, Hiron had four draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls and Lacy three draw controls.
"Lilly Miller, Ashtyn and Kelly Lacy were a dynamic group in midfield,'' JU associate head coach Paul McCord said.
While the offense racked up the points, goal keepers Kaylyn Kearns and Mariah Cudlipp held CMU (4-7, 0-3) at bay and gave up a mere single goal in the second half.
"Our attack played great and the defense gave a good effort on the ride,'' McCord said.
In an pregame ceremony, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Nation blessed the field for the fledgling program and blessed both teams.
JU travels to Detroit Sunday to take on Detroit Mercy in noon game that will be televised on ESPN3. Detroit beat Stetson, 16-6 Friday to move to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in conference.
