Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University's softball program completed the series sweep over North Florida by way of a 9-8 decision Sunday afternoon.
"This feels great," said senior first baseman Emily Sanchez. "We came out and worked hard as a team. This was a great team win through all three games. Dani [Danielle Baker] had great hits, and everyone played hard.
"We're on a roll right now, and we're not allowing anyone in. We know that if we keep rolling at this pace, we can go all the way."
Prior to this weekend's action, the Dolphins' seniors had never recorded a win over UNF (17-24, 5-7 Atlantic Sun). The sweep was much needed for positioning in the A-Sun, as only six of seven teams will advance to the conference tournament.
In similar fashion to game two, the River City finale saw plenty of runs, hits and errors. The Ospreys took a 2-1 lead on back-to-back RBI-doubles in the top of the second, and were held scoreless for the next two innings while Jacksonville padded its advantage.
The Dolphins struck first with an RBI-groundout from Sanchez and later regained their edge, 4-2, in the third after timely two-out hits from Heather Roberts, Jordan Daniels and Kristen Griffith.
The sides combined for 11 runs in the fifth inning and the Dolphins escaped on top, 9-8.
Victoria Brown (16-14) recorded her third-straight win in a complete game pitched. She conceded nine hits and four earned runs.
Jacksonville (23-24, 5-7) will play its final nonconference competitor, Savannah State, in a doubleheader Tuesday. Game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
