JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Add another jewel to the crown

The Jacksonville University women's lacrosse team scaled the Atlantic Sun Conference mountain Sunday and won its fourth consecutive conference title with an 18-4 Senior Day win over Stetson at D.B. Milne Field.

The Dolphins (13-4, 8-0), for the fourth season, finished undefeated in the A-Sun and upped their all-time conference regular-season record to 24-0. They head to the conference tournament, where they have never lost, at Kennesaw State next week as the top seed.

As they have done all conference season, the Dolphins scored early and often against Stetson (5-12, 1-7).

Junior Danielle Della Rocca, who ended the game with six goals, scored the first of her five first-half goals with 28:37 to play in the first half and after Stetson tied at one, JU rolled off 14 straight points for a 14-1 half time lead.

Senior Taylor McCord got in on the first half act with three goals and three assists, her third goal was the 200th point of her career. Lillie Miller and Ashtyn Hiron each had two goals in the first while Amelia Pedwell and MacEllen McDonough added one.

Della Rocca, Hiron, McDonough along with senior Kelsey Wiglesworth put the finishing touches on the conference winner in the second half.

HIron ended the game with six ground balls and Hanna Wilcox had three and Caitlin McMahon had four draw controls and the JU defense held Stetson to 10 shots (two free position attempts).

"It's great. It means a lot more because I'm a senior and going out with the conference wins is amazing,'' Wiglesworth said. "It's a great feeling to leave that way and leave that legacy.''

For Wiglesworth, who graduated Saturday, life after her collegiate career is already looking up as she will be going to the Mayo Clinic as a nurse in the transplant surgical unit.

"I found out a couple of weeks ago; that's a very stressful process,'' she said. "The interview process was long and kept me waiting but I was really lucky to hear.''

"Our seniors really came out and played well,'' JU head coach Mindy McCord said. "We had a lot of players step up. The off season and the season prepare you to position yourself for the tournament and our team has done that.''

McCord said the depth of her squad has been a big asset all season.

"I really like the depth, pace of play and confidence we're playing with,'' she said.

In addition to Taylor McCord and Wiglesworth, Amy Cecere, Sally Holbert, Kirstin Purdy, Sam Bauer and Kelly Lacy all were seeing their final home action.
