Dolphins Fall Against USC Upstate, 6-1; Play Elimination Game Tonight

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Jacksonville University softball program met USC Upstate Thursday morning, and dropped the Atlantic Sun Tournament game by a score of 6-1.

Heather Roberts knocked her second home run of the tourney in the top of the seventh inning, and Paige Curtis, pitching in relief, went 3.2 innings with four hits and two runs.

Jacksonville continues action tonight at 5:30 p.m., against the loser of Kennesaw State/Florida Gulf Coast. The outing will serve as an elimination game.

In the 10 a.m. starter of day two, the Spartans were the clear aggressor, outhitting JU, 9-2.

The two-seed had just three hits early on, but loaded the bases in two of the first three innings, before the latter jam ended in a grand slam.

Errors paved the way for the next two Upstate runs.

In the fifth, Kristen Griffith drew a 3-0 walk for JU's first baserunner of the day and Ciara Jones snapped Lexi Shubert's no-hitter with a single up the middle in the sixth.

Taylor Rossman received the loss in 2.1 innings.
