NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two school records in two days. Jacksonville University's women's track & field runners are getting hot heading into the ASUN Indoor Championships and it was Michelle Howell's turn today as she broke the Dolphins' 800-meter run school record at the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge.
Howell placed fourth in a field of 40 runners with a speedy 2:04.79 to break the previous record of 2:08.17, set by Bienna Freeman in February of 2013.
"Michelle executed perfectly," said Head Coach Ron Grigg. "The race was set up fast; Michelle followed along and had a great last 200 meters. Her hard work and confidence are paying off."
Her time is the quickest in the ASUN Conference and ranks 15th nationally.
In the 60-meter dash, Jacquelyn Baldwin ran a 7.54 in the preliminaries in a field of 55, and placed seventh in 7.53 in the finals.
The Dolphins have a week off before traveling to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the ASUN Indoor Championships February 23 and 24.
