Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In its final regular season appearance at Historic Swisher Gymnasium, the Jacksonville University women's basketball team crowned its 13th home win in a 59-46 decision over USC Upstate Monday.
The sweep – the Dolphins' second in ASUN Conference play -- was further highlighted by a post-game celebration for seniors Kimberly Dawkins, Christin Mercer and Sherranda Reddick. The trio shares several all-time records and the program's first-ever ASUN Conference Championship title and trip to the NCAA Tournament.
"Student-athletes don't get enough credit for the sacrifices they put in so anytime we can celebrate their accomplishments, both on and off the court, I want to do that," said Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin.
The Dolphins' game-opening run captured 11 unanswered points in the first five minutes of play. They went on to limit the opposition to 10 points through the midpoint of the second quarter while padding their advantage to 17.
At the half, Mercer, Brandi Buie and Reddick poured in six points apiece to guide JU to a 29-18 lead. The team was shooting 52.0 percent from the floor (13-for-25) with nearly half of its points occurring in the paint.
Jacksonville jumped out to a 26-point edge, 51-25, at the start of the final frame, and though the Spartans pressured, they would never pull within single-digits.
Brown recorded a game-high 15 points while Mercer and Buie added 10. Reddick finished the game with eight points and eight rebounds.
This weekend, the Dolphins will hit the road for a two-game swing. They will take on Lipscomb Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Kennesaw State Monday at 7 p.m.
