Win the Day: Dolphins Clinch Postseason Berth

Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - "Win the Day" is more than a hashtag for the Jacksonville University men's lacrosse program. It's more like a creed, and for a team vying for a postseason appearance, winning the day was necessary to clinch a spot in the upcoming SoCon Tournament.

Defeating Bellarmine, 17-11, in their regular season finale Saturday afternoon, the Dolphins clinched the fourth and final seed in the league tournament.

Dwayne Mattushik finished the game with a team-high four goals, while McLean Chicquen and Eric Applegate each registered three. Goalkeeper Ben Gleichenhaus recorded 11 saves.

Chicquen struck first with a goal at the 12:49 mark of the first quarter, and there were four ties in the opening half before Jacksonville held a 7-6 edge at the break.

Jacksonville went on to outscore the Knights, 5-1, in the third quarter, and kept the pressure through the final horn with Ryan Beville sending a shot between the pipes in the final minute.

The semifinal round of the SoCon Tournament begins Thursday at 5 p.m. with Jacksonville taking on the top-ranked Air Force. Richmond will play host to each round of play.
