Collective Effort Leads to First Jacksonville Victory Under Galloway

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va.  – A pair of hat tricks from McLean Chicquen and Will Hendrick, Eric Applegate's four points, and a strong defensive effort led Jacksonville University (1-9, 1-3) to its first win of the John Galloway era with a 16-10 victory against the Virginia Military Institute (2-8, 0-4) Saturday at Drill Field No.2.

First Quarter

The Dolphins took a 4-3 edge after one frame thanks to a pair of goals (10:20 and 0:01) and an assist from Applegate. Chase York (12:24) and Chicquen (2:25) each scored on unassisted shots.

Second Quarter

Chicquen buzzed the back of the net again, this time at the 7:30 mark. Applegate added another assist with 2:22 remaining on Chase McIntyre's eighth goal of the year. Hendrick joined in on the fun with a solo score at 1:44.

Ben Gleichenhaus held the Keydets to just one goal in the quarter and Jacksonville led 7-4 at intermission.

Third Quarter

After a VMI score, Mitchell Parker scored the first Dolphin netter of the second half on a man-up possession. He was assisted by Shawn Ewert at 10:12. Hendrick later scored again, this time on a Brett Reilly helper at the 7:33 mark.

Chicquen finished the hat trick on a Hendrick assist with 4:35 remaining in the quarter, and the final goal of the period came on another Reilly assist when he dished to Parker's second goal at 1:57.

Fourth Quarter

Ewert added to the lead with a goal at 8:55, Hendrick scored again at 6:49 to wrap his hat trick, and Granite Porcher stuck it between the pipes at 5:25 for his first goal.

Zach Buller scored twice, sandwiching them around a Keydet goal when he goaled at 4:29 and 4:18.

Quote

"Today was an important day for the rest of our season. Our goal was to win the first quarter of the rest of the season, and we did just that against a very improved VMI team. I was disappointed with our finish to the game. I did not think we handled the lead maturely, but that will certainly come with experience. I am most excited that we were able to play our entire bench today, which is deserving for all of the hard work they put in throughout the week. I am also thrilled with the shooting of Will Hendrick. We have been very tough on Will for his fundamentals, and today he showed what he was capable of. We have plenty of room for improvement, and we will go back to work in Duval come Monday afternoon."- Head Coach John Galloway
