Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla.- In a rematch of the 2016 ASUN Tournament Championship Game, the Jacksonville University men's soccer team fell on the road to Florida Gulf Coast, 1-0, Saturday evening. The defensive affair included just 14 total shots, and three combined saves between the two squads.
The lone offensive action came in the game's 17th minute, when the Eagles' Shak Adams connected on a long ball and sent it into the top left corner of the net past the keeper. FGCU would hold strong on both fronts throughout the remainder of the game, limiting the Dolphins to just three shots, while firing off 11 themselves.
In the team's 2017 ASUN Conference opener, Kai Bennett, Alberto Escobedo, and Sam Gardner all saw action offensively, with each registering a shot. Gardener played the entirety of the game on the back line, while the Dolphins utilized their depth, sending in nine substitutions during the contest.
JU keeper Patrick Harding continued to contribute a strong effort in between the pipes for the Dolphins, registering three saves and staying in goal all 90 minutes.
After experiencing an early start to their conference campaign, JU will now return to non-conference play, hitting the road for a mid-week contest. The Dolphins will head to Statesboro, Ga. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, to face Georgia southern in the Coastal Empire Challenge. Kick-off for the matchup is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
