Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University softball fell in both of its games during Day One of the Dolphin Invitational held at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex. Jacksonville dropped a 3-1 game to UT-Arlington to start the day, and then lost 4-0 to Providence in the nightcap.
"It wasn't our best effort defensively today," said head coach Erica Ayers. "We swung better than the score reflected, we hit some balls hard right at them, and left too many runners on base. We need to get that timely hit. Both Alyssa and Seana pitched well enough to get the "W". We've got to relax and let the game come to us. Tomorrow is a new day and we'll see how we respond."
vs. UT-Arlington
Jacksonville jumped out to the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth as Kristen Griffith ripped a double to right field in order to score Jordan Daniels from first.
UT-Arlington rallied in the top of the sixth when Reagan Wright sent a three-run homer over the left center wall.
Alyssa Bilodeau fell to 1-1 on the season after pitching all 7.0 innings in the loss. Bilodeau limited the Mavericks to four hits. Madison Ragan was 2-for-3 from the plate.
vs. Providence
Dolphin miscues in the third inning were costly as Providence plated a pair of unearned runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Friars later added to their lead with a two-run fifth inning. Mackensie Compton came home on Brittney Veler's deep double to center field. Another Jacksonville error then brought in Veler for what proved to be the final run of the game.
Jacksonville attempted to fight back as the Dolphins had runners on second and third in both the fifth and sixth innings. However, strong defensive play by Providence prevented any of the Dolphin runners from getting home.
Seana Mora fell to 1-3 on the season, pitching all 7.0 innings and allowing two earned runs off eight hits. Griffith went 2-for-3 from the plate.
JU continues play at the Dolphin Invitational on Saturday with games against Canisius (2:30 p.m.) and Providence (5 p.m.) at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex.
