Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University Softball defeated Penn State 3-2 in the Green and Gold Classic Saturday at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex. In game one, the Dolphins (8-6) fell to James Madison 5-2.
Alyssa Bilodeau (5-1) pitched a complete game in her game two win over Penn State. She struck out two and held the Nittany Lions to two runs on just three hits in seven innings.
Hannah Roberts continues to impress in the weekend tournament. The JU infielder was three for five on the day and is 6-12 with a double and four RBI in her last four games.
vs. James Madison
Seana Mora scattered 10 hits and held James Madison to just two unearned runs, but the Dukes edged the Dolphins 5-2 in game one.
JMU sprinted out to a 3-0 lead in the first frame, but Roberts cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second with an RBI single that scored Jordan Daniels.
Jacksonville and James Madison exchanged runs in the fifth. JMU opened the inning with two runs, and JU answered as Kristen Griffith scored on a sacrifice fly by Serena Quinata.
The Dukes' Payton Buresch (3-1) earned the win, allowing two runs in four and a third innings pitched. Madison Ragan (0-1), who started the game for JU and pitched just one third of an inning, was tagged with the loss.
vs. Penn State
Jacksonville fended off a late push to defeat Penn State 3-2 in Saturday's nightcap. Bilodeau earned the win in a complete game, limiting the Nittany Lions to two runs.
Penn State's Madison Shaffer was the pitcher of record on the losing side, with three runs allowed in five and a third innings.
Jacksonville faced a 1-0 deficit after the first inning, but took the lead with two runs from Danielle Baker and Allie McCourt in the third.
The Nittany Lions tied the game in the sixth, but Jacksonville retook the lead on an RBI single by Daniels that scored Heather Roberts.
JU wraps up the Green and Gold Classic against UCF Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex.
