Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University Softball fell 5-3 to UCF in the Green and Gold Classic finale Sunday at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex. It was the fifth game in three days for JU (8-7) here in the early part of the 2018 season.
Seana Mora (1-4) took the loss despite holding the Knights (8-6) to only three hits in seven innings of work. UCF's Alea White earned the win, allowing eight hits and three earned runs in seven innings.
JU fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first, but responded in the bottom half with a pair of runs of their own. Danielle Baker walked to start things off and advanced to second on a single by Heather Roberts. Madison Ragan advanced the leading runner on a sacrifice fly, setting up Baker to score on a wild pitch. Jordan Daniels ripped a double up the middle to score Roberts, cutting the lead to 3-2.
Mora faced the minimum through the ensuing four innings before JU tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Baker hit a one-out single, setting up an RBI double by Roberts.
Roberts was 3-for-4 with an RBI in the loss. Baker was 1-for-2 with a pair of runs and two walks. Daniels was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
UCF took back the lead in the sixth with a two-run home run by Courtney Rotton.
Jacksonville will rest up after the Green and Gold Classic with four days off before the Jacksonville Invitational. The Dolphins open play with Campbell Friday at 6 p.m. at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex.
