Box Score GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Finding a spark in the second half, Jacksonville University women's lacrosse posted four goals against No. 4 Florida, but the Dolphins were unable to overcome a first-half deficit and fell to the Gators, 16-5, Wednesday evening at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
Jody Julmice led the Dolphins (2-2) with a pair of goals, one in each half, while Jenny Kinsey, Kasey Stevens, and Lauren Phillips had one each. Kristen Brunoforte recorded a trio of saves in her first start of the season.
"We outdrew them and only committed 12 turnovers against a good pressure team. Our shooting in the first half was poor, and their goalkeeper did a nice job," stated head coach Mindy McCord. "We will grow and recover."
The Dolphins won the draw battle, 13-10, as Alpha Lacrosse National Player of the Week Ashtyn Hiron led both teams with four draw controls; Lillie Miller added three.
The Gators (3-1) took an early 9-0 lead before the Dolphins found an answer on a goal from Julmice at the 8:32 mark in the first.
Pushing their lead to 12-1 with 26:30 to play in the second, Kinsey added a second for the Dolphins on a free-position shot with 22:43 to play.
Jacksonville closed out the second half, outscoring the Gators 3-1 in the final 12:26 with goals from Julmice (12:26), a free-position from Stevens (6:13), and a mark from Phillips (0:53) to close out the game. In textbook Dolphin fashion, Genie Santarpio nabbed the ball off a rebound and dished to Phillips, who found the back of the net with time winding down.
Grace Haus led the Gators with four goals, while goalie Haley Hicken posted 11 saves in 47:53 between the pipes to take home the win.
The Dolphins return to action this Sunday, March 4 when they welcome Villanova to D.B. Milne Field for a 1 p.m. contest.
