COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Jacksonville University Softball fell 6-0 to Miami (Ohio) in game three of the Maryland Invitational Saturday.

The Dolphins (14-10) scattered seven hits on Miami's Courtney Vierstra, but the right-hander stranded nine in a complete-game shutout.

JU's first inning was indicative of how the morning would go. Allie McCourt led off the game with a single, but was quickly caught stealing second. Danielle Baker later tried to score from second on a single by Madison Ragan, but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Miami (8-9) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on back-to-back home runs by Ashton Slone and Johnlann Wahl.

The Redhawks extended their lead in the third. Megan Wurts hit a leadoff double and scored on a double by Wahl. Kat Lee hit the third double of the inning to score Wahl and put Miami up 5-0.

Jacksonville stranded runners in the fourth and fifth innings before Miami added one run to their lead in the bottom of the fifth.

The Dolphins threatened in the sixth. Heather Roberts singled, before Ragan reached on a fielder's choice. Jordan Daniels walked to advance Ragan to second, and a fielding error in favor of Carolyn O'Neal loaded the bases. But Viestra dealt a strikeout to retired the side.

Vierstra earned the win with six strikeouts in seven innings of work. JU's Haley Holloway was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on two hits.

JU continues the Miami Invitational Sunday against Utah Sunday at 10 a.m. at Maryland Softball Stadium.
