Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A fifth-inning home run and a handful of missed opportunities in the sixth and seventh innings led to a 3-1 loss to Notre Dame for Jacksonville University Softball Wednesday.
Alyssa Bilodeau (10-4) pitched all seven innings for the Dolphins (14-13), striking out two and holding the Fighting Irish (16-8) to three runs in the loss. Katie Bariont (5-4) earned the win and Alexis Holloway earned the save for Notre Dame.
JU faced a 1-0 lead through four innings before Jordan Daniels tied the contest with a fifth-inning solo shot to left. The Irish re-took the lead in the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth, Danielle Baker, who was 2-for-3 on the night, hit a leadoff single. Heather Roberts followed with another single. With runners on first and second and nobody out, Madison Ragan laid down the sacrifice bunt to put the go-ahead run in scoring position.
But Baker would be out at home on a subsequent fielder's choice, setting up an inning-ending groundout.
In the seventh Notre Dame extended their lead to 3-1. Kristen Griffith hit a one-out double in the bottom of the inning, but was stranded there after two groundouts ended the game.
The Dolphins host George Mason in a doubleheader Saturday at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex. Game one is scheduled for noon.
