JU Opens Maryland Invitational with Back-to-Back Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University Softball opened the Maryland Invitational with a pair of wins Friday. The Dolphins (14-9) defeated Yale 4-3 in extra innings in game one, and followed that with a 2-0 win over host Maryland in game two.

Jacksonville's Alyssa Bilodeau earned the win in both contests. The right-hander threw the final three innings of game one, holding Yale (1-9) to just one run on one hit. She remained in the circle for the start of game two, and turned in seven scoreless innings against the Terrapins (6-16) for her tenth win of the young season.

Leading the Dolphins at the plate was Hannah Roberts, who was 2-for-5 with three RBI on the day.

vs. Yale

Jacksonville faced an early 1-0 deficit, but evened the score in the second inning as Madison Ragan belted a leadoff home run.

JU starter Seana Mora held the Bulldogs scoreless in the second and third innings, setting the Dolphins up for their first lead of the game in the fourth. Heather Roberts hit a leadoff single, moved to second as Ragan walked, and both runners advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Daniels. Hannah Roberts drove in her older sister with a sacrifice fly to left.

Yale tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, but JU retook the lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Danielle Baker.

Haley Holloway, who relieved Mora in the fourth, faced the minimum in the fifth. Bilodeau replaced her in the sixth and saw the Dolphins' lead erased in the bottom of the seventh.

Jacksonville again took the lead in the top of the eighth. With Serena Quinata placed on second to start the inning, Allie McCourt laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her to third. Heather Roberts' sacrifice fly to center proved to be the difference in the game, as Bilodeau faced the minimum in the bottom of the eighth.

vs. Maryland

Game two of the Maryland Classic featured a true pitchers' duel between Bilodeau and the Terrapins' Ryan Denhart. The two matched scoreless softball through five innings before the Dolphins broke through in the sixth.

With two out, Ragan doubled and Daniels walked to put runners on first and second for Hannah Roberts. Roberts singled to right field, scoring both runners and giving JU a 2-0 lead.

Bilodeau struck out four of her game-total five in the final two innings to help cement the win.

JU continues the Maryland Invitational Saturday against Miami (Ohio) at 10 a.m. at Maryland Softball Stadium.
