Davis Tallies Two Season-High Records In Dolphins Tough Loss To Central Arkansas

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville's men's soccer team (3-8-0, 2-3-0 ASUN) put up an all-around battle against ASUN opponent Central Arkansas (9-4-0, 4-1-0 ASUN), but would ultimately come up short. Despite the 2-0 loss, redshirt junior Reed Davis tallied two season-high records with four shot attempts and three shots on goal throughout the match.

Through the first ten minutes of play, the ball evenly made its way across the field before the Bears took the first shot of the game at the 11 minute mark. Two minutes later, Olivier Correa took the first shot for the Dolphins that would land right into the hands of the Bears goalkeeper.

After Correa's shot attempt, both teams' offense kicked into overdrive as seven shots were attempted through seven minutes of action, starting with JU. Zach Blice hit the ball left of the goal to then turn it over to the bears who would also miss the net after launching the ball too high a few seconds later. At the 22 minute mark Reed Davis took back-to-back shots that were blocked and saved, followed by Jake Duncan-Smith, who would also be unsuccessful in putting the Dolphins on the board. Keeping up the momentum on offense, Davis took another shot attempt two minutes later that tallied another save for the Bears keeper.

Davis made it clear that he was not done trying to put JU ahead as he would take another shot attempt four minutes later. Following his lead, Alex Salvador took his first shot of the game but the ball would just scrape the outside of the goalpost. As the clock wound down, the Dolphins accumulated two more shot attempts but with 30 second left in the half, the Bears snuck the ball past JU's goalkeeper to take a late 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The Dolphins continued to press on offense at the start of the second half. Correa took another shot two minutes into the period, but the Bears followed with back-to-back shots that just missed landing inside of the net. At the 61 minute mark, Cole Reasonver dribbled the ball towards the Bears goalkeeper but was blocked to take a corner kick that led to a Bears possession.

Central Arkansas began to threaten the Dolphins defense. The Bears managed to keep the ball on JU's side of the field, mimicking a game of keep away around the Dolphins. At the 73 minute mark, Central Arkansas found the back of the next once more to extend its lead. During the next 20 minutes of play the game grew silent as neither team managed to rattle off another shot towards the goal. With fifteen second left, the Bears took one more shot to try and add another point to the board, but were unsuccessful. The Dolphins exited the field with its third conference loss.

Up next, the Dolphins travel to Georgia to compete against conference opponent Mercer. The game is scheduled for Tuesday Oct. 19, kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
