Dolphins Suffer Close Loss to Seahawks In Third Regular Season Contest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville's men's soccer team (1-2-0) fell 3-1 to UNCW (3-0-0), to collect its second regular season loss. Despite the Dolphins rattling off nine total shots, the Seahawks strong defense only allowed JU to score one goal.

In the first five minutes of the game, the Seahawks put pressure on the Dolphins after attempting a shot that was ultimately saved by JU starting goalkeeper, Matt Levy. The Dolphins responded with a shot less than two minutes later, but UNCW picked up the pace on offense to take back control and keep the ball on JU's side of the field. UNCW attempted the next four shots, but would be unsuccessful in making its way onto the score board. At the 36 minute mark, Nicolas Molina would find the back of the net to put the Seahawks on top, 1-0. As the clock ran out, freshman Olivier Correa attempted the last shot of the half, but failed to put JU on the board.

After returning to the field, UNCW kept its steady offense rolling in the second period. In the eleventh minute of the half, Cannon Tootle scored to extend UNCW's lead, 2-0. After the goal, JU began to gain speed and battle against the Seahawks, making three shot attempts in the next twenty minutes and holding UNCW to only one. At the 75 mark, UNCW broke through the JU defense and launched the ball past the goalkeeper to change the score to 3-0. Two minutes later, Nil Ringstrand responded by heading the ball over UNCW's goalie off a corner kick by Cole Reasonover. Ringstrands goal cut the Seahawks lead to 3-1. Through the remainder of the period, the Seahawks would attempt one more shot and prevented the Dolphins from pursuing another chance at adding to the board.

Despite the loss, Reed Davis and Correa each tallied two shots and Levy recorded four saves, just one short of tying a season-high record.

Next, the Dolphins will travel to Clinton, South Carolina to compete against Presbyterian (1-1-1) on Sat. September 11. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. ET.
