Women’s Rowing Starts Season Strong in Deland Double Duels

DELAND, FLA. – Jacksonville Women's Rowing kicked off their spring season in successful fashion on Friday, winning every race but one against both Embry Riddle and Sacred Heart in the Deland Double Duels.

Looking at the full results, Jacksonville swept fellow MAAC opponent Sacred Heart in all four of the events that they raced against each other on the 2000m course in Deland.

The Dolphins finished 12 seconds ahead of Sacred Heart in the 1st Varsity 8 and went on to claim the 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity Four, and W3v8 race with times of 7:15.8, 8:05.2 (Jacksonville 2v), and 7:44.5 respectively.

Moving on to their matchup against Embry Riddle, Jacksonville claimed both the Varsity 8 and W2V4, but received their only race loss of the day in the Varsity 4 when Embry Riddle bested the Dolphins by 10.4 seconds.

When asked about how he felt about his team's performance and what it meant for them moving forward, Head Coach Mike Lane was adamant that his team could learn from Friday and continue their success the rest of spring.

"This was a great way to start our MAAC Championship quest, and I am proud of our athletes performance today. Racing in state rival Embry Riddle, as well as MAAC conference competitor Sacred Heart, is a great way to start our season. The success we had out on the race course is due to our hard work and the belief that our athletes have in each other. That being said, we learned a great deal and have a lot to work on as we head into spring break training week!" said Lane.

Looking ahead the Dolphins are right back in action this coming Friday, March 18, when they travel to Orlando to face both Central Florida (UCF) and Connecticut (UCONN).
