Women’s Rowing Battles Through Tough Water Conditions in Deland

Deland, FL – Jacksonville Women's Rowing turned in a solid performance on Friday afternoon against both Stetson and Miami despite some tough water conditions out on Lake Beresford in Deland.

Rowing through a steady headwind that increased in speed throughout the day, the Dolphins experienced conditions that were choppy and not ideal for racing, but still managed to claim wins in both the W2V4 and W3V8 race while also taking second in both Varsity 8+ races and the Varsity 4.

Going up against MAAC opponent Stetson for the third of five times this season, JU managed to finish ahead of the Hatters in the four events they competed in by a combined time of just over two minutes.

When asked, Head Coach Mike Lane was very pleased with his team's success against Stetson, while also putting up a solid display including a victory in the W2V4 against a strong opponent in Miami.

"Really proud of our effort today. Beating Miami is always a big accomplishment then beating Stetson our MAAC rival in every event was an important step for us as we work through four weekends of racing! The varsity 8+ was really pushed all the way down the course by Stetson.  However, we were able to pull away in the final 500 which is a testament to the hard work and character building we have worked on all year.  That being said we will see Stetson again next weekend, then again at the MAAC Championships so we need to keep that in perspective, they will be coming for us!" said Lane.

Looking ahead to that next matchup, the Dolphins will meet Stetson and a crew of other schools when they head to Sarasota to compete in the Sunshine State Invite on both Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2.
