Women’s Rowing Hosts Successful Senior Day

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Jacksonville Women's Rowing had a successful Saturday morning when they took on Villanova in an unofficial scrimmage that served as the team's Senior Day.

In the event, The Dolphins were able to race four 8x boats vs Villanova's three, and both teams competed in multiple pieces varying in length from 1500m to 500m.

Although none of the results were official, the Dolphin boats were visibly faster than Villanova's and almost all of the pieces finished with a JU boat crossing the finish line first.

Following the showcase out on the water, the eleven senior members of the team were honored with a short presentation and photo opportunity with their families.

When asked about how he felt about the entire event, Head Coach Mike Lane was very pleased with his team and thankful of Villanova for traveling down and helping the event to a complete success.

"What a special day, we had a great performance today and I could not be prouder of the effort we put in. This was a solid foundation for the remainder of our spring racing season. I thank the Villanova program for making the effort to come race us at the end of their spring break!" said Lane.

Coach Lane continued on to praise his Seniors and wished them well as they embark on a spring season in which they are poised to compete at the top of the MAAC.

"I love our seniors and am really happy they had such a special day today.  I hope they will enjoy each and every day from now till the end of the year!  I want them to walk away from the program with no regrets!  Thank you to their parents who have supported them over the last four years.  This will be a very hard class to say good bye to!" exclaimed Lane.

The team will now shift their focus to Friday, March 11 when they will head to Deland, FL to compete in their first MAAC event of the year against Stetson and Sacred Heart.
