SARASOTA, FL – Jacksonville Women's Rowing took to the waters of Nathan Benderson Park on Friday afternoon where they battled a large group of high-level opponents in day one of the Sunshine State Invitational.

Kicking off the day in the 2^nd V4+ race, the Dolphins were able to edge out Kansas State, Louisville, and Stetson, posting a time of 07:58.83 which was a whole 1:08.37 in front of their MAAC counterpart in the Hatters.

The Dolphins would then go on to compete in the 1^st V4+, 3^rd V8+, 2^nd V8+, and 1^st V8+ where they would place either last, or second to last in each race. Their best time of the day came in the 1^st Varsity 8+ race where JU posted a time of 6:45.60 just edging out Kansas State by less than two seconds, something that Head Coach Mike Lane was very proud of.

"Watching the varsity eight go one length down on Kansas State then fighting back through them to take a length lead in the final 250 was really impressive!" said Lane.

Lane continued on to say how happy he was with his team's efforts on the day, having faced some top tier programs.

"I was really proud of the fight our athletes displayed today!  We were going up against some bigger and stronger programs and they never gave up!  Every single one of our boats fought to the end! Excited to watch what this program will do tomorrow and the remainder of the year!" exclaimed Lane.

Looking forward to day two tomorrow, the Dolphins will prepare to compete in the petite finals which kick off at 8 am with the 1^st Varsity 8+ race.
