Dolphins Fall to Florida Wednesday Evening

Gainesville, Fla. – The #22 Jacksonville Dolphins (11-4) fell to the #9 Florida Gators (12-4) 12-6, Wednesday night at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.

Jenny Kinsey's recorded a game-high three goals in the effort. Paige Pagano halted 17 shots for the Dolphins, one away from tying the single-game program record.

The Gators jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Dolphins, less than five minutes into the contest. However, the Dolphins responded courtesy of back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to one. Florida would swing the momentum back in their favor, with two-straight goals to end the quarter, leading 5-2.

Florida would continue to build off their momentum, scoring the opening three goals of the second quarter. Kinsey's goal with 4:55 would be the only score in the frame for JU, as the Gators followed scoring the half's final goal, taking a 9-3 lead into the break.

A relatively quiet third quarter for each squad offensively, saw a goal each from the programs. Kinsey would find the back of the net for JU, with her free-position score at the 8:13 mark in the stanza. The Gators would score with seven seconds remaining, holding a six-goal advantage entering the fourth, 10-4.

The two programs traded goals back-and-forth in the final quarter. Ultimately in the end, Florida would defend the home turf, defeating the Dolphins in a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament clash.

The Dolphins flip the page to next weekend's 2022 ASUN Women's Lacrosse Championship. The number one seeded Dolphins with hit the field next Thursday at 1 PM at Rock Stadium, against an opponent still to be determined.
