Women’s Rowing Prepares for NCAA Championships in Sarasota

SARASOTA, FLA – Following their sixth MAAC Championship in program history, Jacksonville Women's Rowing now heads down to Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota where they will take part in the three-day NCAA Championships from Friday, May 27, to Sunday, May 29.

In that MAAC Championship Jacksonville put together their best event in recent history, sweeping every race and beating rival Marist by nine points. With the win, JU effectively secured the automatic bid to this year's NCAA Championships where they will take on the 21 best rowing programs in the country.

Following their automatic selection to the Championships Jacksonville also received their seeding for each of the three main events, the First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Fours. For the first time in program history Jacksonville was not seeded last in one of the events, with their 2V8 claiming the 21st seed over 22nd Northeastern.

Looking at the schedule of events for the weekend, Jacksonville kicks off their racing with the First Varsity Eight Heat Race at approximately 9:24 am on Friday. Jacksonville will compete in heat three of four against powerhouse programs in Syracuse, Ohio State, Stanford, Oregon State, and Boston U.

Jacksonville will then follow up the 1V8 heat with the Second Varsity Eight Heat Race approximately an hour later at 10:24 am, and then the Varsity Fours Heat Race scheduled for 11 am. Based on their result in the heats, Jacksonville will then advance to either the repechage races which begin at 4:12 pm on Friday, or the Semifinal races which are scheduled to begin at 8:12 am on Saturday morning.

Then concluding the event on Sunday, Finals racing is scheduled to begin at approximately 8:12 am, with the entire event wrapping at 10:24 am with the First Varsity Eight Grand Final.
