SARASOTA, FLA – Jacksonville Women's Rowing finished up the semifinal portion of this year's NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon, advancing all three boats to the D-Finals while also claiming their second ever head-to-head victory at the event.
Kicking off the day with the First Varsity Eight Semifinal #4, the Jacksonville 1V was able to capture the program's second head-to-head win of the weekend, and all time at the NCAA Championships, finishing just under five seconds ahead of the 1V from Rhode Island.
The Jacksonville Second Varsity Eight then took to the water 30 minutes later for the 2V8 Semifinal #4, where they unfortunately recorded their slowest time of the weekend, posting a 07:10.274. The time, which put them in last place, was just under five seconds slower than the Northeastern 2V in fourth place who posted a time of 07:05.460.
The 'Phins then wrapped the day with the Varsity Four Semifinal #4 in which the JU V4 also posted their slowest time of the weekend, recording a 07:55.336.
The Dolphins now shift their focus to tomorrow's D-Finals where they will have a good shot at collecting a few more head-to-head victories before the weekend finishes up. When asked about his thoughts on the semifinal racing, and the Dolphins' chances in tomorrow's finals, Head Coach
Mike Lane was hopeful that his squad can turn it around and produce some more solid results
.
"I think as a program our goal was to beat at least one boat here in each event. You know, I would've liked to see our 2V and V4 do a little better today, but I have to tell you the 1V beating Rhode Island was a huge confidence boost going into tomorrow. I know for a fact our 1V had not beaten anyone in a semi or final at the NCAA's, so I thought that was really huge and it showed in how they rowed. They rowed really confident and were really exciting to watch," said Lane
"I think our 2V and V4 have good opportunities tomorrow to beat people. I think its going to be determined by who shows up to race and who doesn't, and hopefully our kids are the ones who show up," finished Lane.
Looking at tomorrow's D-Finals, the Jacksonville V4 will hit the water for their respective final at 8:10 am, followed by the 2V's final race at 8:34 am. The 'Phins' will then complete the 2022 NCAA Championships with the 1V's final at 8:58 am.
