Panel discussion "Life and Living After College Sports" featuring former Olympians and professional athletes
In partnership with the Jacksonville University College of Law, JU Athletics will host a panel discussion featuring six former professional athletes who, following retirement, have turned their sporting careers into successful professional endeavors. JU student-athletes will attend, along with other interested parties from the JU community. Dean of the College of Law Nick Allard will moderate the panel.
Panelists include:
Tom McMillen: All-American basketball player at the University of Maryland, member of the 1972 U.S. Olympic Basketball Team, Rhodes Scholar, 11-year NBA veteran, served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 1993. President and CEO of LEAD1 Association.
Donna Orender: Queens College Women's basketball team, three years in the Women's Professional Basketball League, former President of the WNBA, former PGA TOUR executive, founder and CEO of Orender Unlimited and Generation W.
Nancy Hogshead-Makar, J.D.: Four-time Olympic medalist in swimming, CEO and founder of Champion Women, civil rights attorney, former President of the Women's Sport Foundation, former co-chair of the American Bar Association Committee on the Rights of Women, gender rights advocate, anti doping expert.
Malik Jackson, J.D.: Quarterback at Princeton University, former Teach for America history teacher, attorney and associate at Smith Hulsey & Busey focusing on sports and NIL litigation.
Artis Gilmore: JU men's basketball standout from 1969 to 1971, led the team to the 1970 NCAA Championship game, 18-year career in the ABA and NBA, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member, radio commentator, Special Assistant to the President at Jacksonville University.
Dee Brown: JU men's basketball standout from 1987-1990, 12-year NBA career, 1991 Slam Dunk champion, former WBNA coach and executive, JU Executive Director of University and Athletics Relations.
