HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacksonville (7-6 3-1 ASUN) came out strong from the start,
Kaila Stasulli won the first draw and quickly was able to move the ball to the Lions' defensive end, where
Grace Hobson was able to find
Hudson Gentile, who earned the first scoring play. Jacksonville went on an 8-3 run against Lindenwood (6-7 1-2 ASUN) with goals from
Sarah Elms,
Grace Hobson, Maddy Orfeice, and
Lauren Craft.
The 26 goals are a team-high for the season, topping the 20 goals the Dolphins scored against Delaware State in March. Elms now has 45 goals for the season, and Hobson has 27 assists leading the team in their category.
Lindenwood scored the first goal of the second quarter shortly after fifth-year
Molly Brock answered back with a goal for Jacksonville. The Dolphins went unanswered for the next seven goals they scored. Jacksonville was a brick wall on defense, only allowing Lindenwood to score four goals the entire first half. The score at the half was 17-4 Jacksonville.
The Dolphins continued their momentum into the second half. Craft notched the first goal of the quarter, followed shortly after by a goal from Brock. Jacksonville used their speed and extended lead to offensively work the ball around the crease and successfully find the net five more times that quarter unanswered by the Lions'.
Jenna Peed wasted no time in the fourth, scoring the first goal less than 30 seconds in to bring the score 24-4. In a man-down play for the Dolphins, Hoschel made space and received a pass from
Olivia Johnson to score. Lindenwood successfully notched two goals in the fourth, but unfortunately, not enough to defeat Jacksonville.
"We started strong from the first whistle and never wavered." said fifth year
Maddie Sturgell. "We had great ball movement and unselfish play which allowed us to create many scoring opportunities." said senior
Grace Hobson "I am so proud of this group and all our efforts."
