JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Jacksonville women's lacrosse team fell to the No. 4 Florida Gators 17-7 Wednesday. The Dolphins had five players with two points, including freshman attacker
Shae Hagans and junior attacker
Brigid Manning who each scored a pair of goals.
Florida opened the scoring, but Jacksonville had an early answer. Junior attacker
Ainsley Scruggs swung the ball to sophomore midfielder
Allyx Berry who ripped a powerful outside shot past the goalie to tie the game at one.
The Gators went on a 9-0 run from that point, taking their lead late into the second quarter. Scruggs scored to end the run, then Hagans rifled a free-position shot far and away to put three on the board for JU. Florida took a 12-3 lead at the half.
The second half turned into a much more competitive battle. UF scored first, but Manning cashed in a free-position opportunity soon after. After another Gators goal, Berry found Hagans open on the crease, and the freshman quick-sticked the ball into the back of the net.
Florida took the next two goals, but senior attacker
Madison Plitt buried a goal with under five minutes left to get one back for the Dolphins. Plitt turned playmaker soon after, slinging a pass to Manning who finished the chance to make the score 16-7.
The Gators added one final goal to see out the result.
