Dolphins Close Season with 3-1 Win Over FGCU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University men's soccer scored twice in the opening 10 minutes and never relinquished its lead, defeating FGCU 3-1 on Saturday night at Southern Oak Stadium to close the regular season and eliminate the Eagles from ASUN Tournament contention.

Spencer Potter, Kai Tamashiro and Jake Waters each found the back of the net as the Dolphins improved to 7-6-3 overall and 2-4-2 in conference play. FGCU fell to 5-7-4 and 1-4-3 in the ASUN.

Potter opened the scoring at 5:31 with his first goal of the season on a corner kick, giving Jacksonville an early advantage. Exactly four minutes later, Tamashiro doubled the lead off an assist from Diego Valles, recording his second goal of the year and putting the Dolphins ahead 2-0.

Jacksonville carried that cushion into halftime after limiting FGCU to three first-half shots. Simen Havig kept the Eagles scoreless through the opening 45 minutes before Andrew Sobieski took over in goal for the second half.

Sobieski made four saves in the first 14 minutes after the break, protecting the lead before Waters added Jacksonville's third goal at 60:17. Dante Wright provided the assist as Waters brought his season total to four goals in seven appearances, with all four coming in the Dolphins' final four regular-season matches.

FGCU pulled a goal back through Christian Nobo in the 71st minute, but Jacksonville held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the way. Sobieski finished with six saves in his 45 minutes of action.

The Dolphins converted three of their eight shots, with five attempts on target, to secure their third consecutive home victory.

The Dolphins thank their fans for their support throughout the season and for making Southern Oak Stadium a special place to compete. With three consecutive home wins to close the regular season and contributions from an emerging group of young players, Jacksonville has plenty to build on and a bright future ahead.
