JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- For the final time in the regular season, the Jacksonville Dolphins suited up to defend their home turf at Rock Stadium. They closed out the home slate in style, sending off their nine seniors with a senior day celebration.
The Dolphins (10-5, 6-1 ASUN) rolled past the Lindenwood Lions 14-3 Saturday afternoon. Jacksonville held Lindenwood to its fewest goals scored this season and three goals is the fewest allowed by the Dolphins this year.
Jacksonville had 10 different players record at least one point, with five different people recording three points.
The first half was dominated by the Dolphins, as the hosts scored every goal in the first two periods. Jacksonville lived on the player up early on, scoring three goals with the player advantage in the first quarter.
Junior
Julia Nicholson started the scoring, then senior
Olivia Johnson potted a finish off a quick feed from sophomore
Chloe Luther. Senior
Ainsley Scruggs lined up a free-position shot, blasting a long-range effort past the goalie.
On another free-position shot, junior
Jessica Giller beat the defense to the crease and scored. Junior
Maeve Brennan muscled her way to the goal for the fifth finish of the first quarter.
The scoring slowed in the second, but the dominant day from the Dolphins defense kept the Lions off the board. Giller finished her second goal of the half. With 15 seconds left in the half, Scruggs added one more to cap off a perfect half of lacrosse.
The one-way traffic for Jacksonville continued into the second half. Giller completed her hat-trick halfway through the period, then Brennan polished off her second off a feed from senior
Samantha Ednie.
Junior
Ruby Lynch dodged down the alley and scored at a narrow angle, locking in her first goal of the season. After more than 40 minutes of shutout defense, Lindenwood finally broke the drought
Jacksonville added one more to close the third in style. Junior
Allyx Berry scanned the field and ripped a pass to Brennan cutting to the crease. With her angle decreasing, Brennan fired a shot behind her back, fooling the goalie and completing her hat-trick.
Lynch scored her second of the day to start the fourth quarter. After a second Lions goal, sophomore
Chloe Luther scored on a free-position shot. The Dolphins closed the game with another Luther goal, finishing off a pass from sophomore
Fiona MacLean.
