Position Summary: 

Primary job responsibilities include assisting in the design, implementation, scheduling, and assisting the Sports Performance department and staff. This includes assisting the Assistant AD, Sports Performance, and staff in all aspects of the program including, but not limited to, teaching student-athletes how to perform weightlifting and conditioning. Sport assistance and oversight for this specific graduate assistant position will include heavily assisting with both the men’s and women’s basketball performance programs as well as directly overseeing 1-2 Olympic sports programs. In addition, this position will assist with the daily operation and maintenance of the weight room and other duties as assigned by the Assistant AD, Sports Performance, and staff. The ability to communicate and develop a working relationship with sports coaches, athletic trainers, and student-athletes is imperative. Support other staff members as assigned in aspects of a Sports Performance department.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting the sports performance staff with the implementation of training for assigned teams, assisting with supervision of athlete and training facilities, assisting with setup and breakdown down of equipment for training sessions, active participation in projects and assignments throughout the duration of the graduate assistantship program, as well as performing any other duties as assigned by the sports performance staff.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, and Experience: 

Required certifications are as follows: Current CPR/AED certification, as well as achievement of a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related course of study, and CSCS or SCCC certification.

Previous experience in a strength & conditioning program, coaching internship experience, or collegiate athletics experience is preferred.

In order to be considered for the position the candidate must be admitted into the Exercise Science graduate program at Jacksonville University.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing at least 45 pounds.

Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.

Important Note:

Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coaches must be able to commit a minimum of 30 hours per week including some early mornings, nights, and weekends. This position includes a full tuition waiver, living stipend, a base meal plan, and is limited to 2 years in duration (Fall 2023-Spring 2025). In order to be considered for the position the candidate must be admitted into the Exercise Science graduate program at Jacksonville University.
