Former Defensive standout Griffin Garland returns to the River City in 2018, serving as a Student Assistant for the Jacksonville University football team.
A native of Jupiter, Fla., Garland was a four-year member of the team from 2014-17, playing in 37 games as a linebacker, safety or long-snapper.
A Second-Team All-Conference selection in the Pioneer Football League in 2017, Garland earned the distinction for two different positions, as both a safety and a long-snapper. Starting all 11 games at the strong safety position, he made 62 tackes (three for a loss), forced and recovered a fumble and caught three interceptions. Additionally, he was a perfect 80-for-80 in target snaps as a long-snapper.
Garland earned Second-Team PFL All-Academic honors in 2017 & 2015, and transitioned from a linebacker to a safety during his junior season in 2016.
He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Jacksonville in 2018, and is currently working towards an MBA with a concentration in management.
