Jordan Todman, a seven-year NFL vet who played for the Jaguars and was the 2010 Big East Offensive Player of the Year at Connecticut, assumes the role of Defensive Analyst/Special Teams for the 2019 season.
Â
"We're very fortunate to have Jordan joining our staff," said Head Coach Ian Shields. "Jordan's resume within the game speaks for itself.
Â
"He comes highly recommended and is going to be a great mentor for our student-athletes."
Â
His experience as a special teams standout in the NFL will be leaned on this upcoming season, as the Dolphins break in a handful of new specialists. He will team with Special Teams CoordinatorÂ
Steven Sylvester andÂ
the other new analyst Denard Robinson to lead the unit.
Â
Todman played collegiately at Connecticut, backing up future NFL running back Donald Brown his freshman season before ascending to the starter's role as a sophomore. He ran for over 1,000 yards in both his sophomore and junior campaigns, improving from Second Team All-Big East in 2009 to Big East Offensive Player of the Year in 2010 after rushing for 1,574 yards and 14 touchdowns in helping the Huskies make the 2011 Fiesta Bowl as conference co-champions, UConn's lone BCS bowl bid in school history.
Â
After forgoing his senior year to enter the NFL Draft, Todman was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 draft by the San Diego Chargers. After moving between the Chargers and Vikings practice squads his first two seasons, he joined the Jaguars at the end of the 2012 campaign. He played in all 32 games in 2013 and 2014 for Jacksonville, starting three and rushing for 432 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught two memorable scores, both coming on trick plays, both coming against the Houston Texans. In 2013, he caught a 21-yard pass from receiver Ace Sanders for a score, and again in 2014 he was on the receiving end of a 23-yard trick play touchdown, this time thrown by Cecil Shorts III.
Â
Todman went on to play for Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and Houston over the next three seasons, last appearing in a game in 2017. He is currently an NFL free agent.
Â
Along with Robinson, Todman joinsÂ
new cornerbacks coach Tony Carter and Offensive CoordinatorÂ
Trent Steelman as members of the JU coaching staff with NFL experience.
Â
"With the additions of Jordan, Denard and Tony, I'm thrilled we have some men who have played at the highest level of football, have roots here in Florida, are tremendous role models and flat out good people," said Shields.
