Wade Green joins Jacksonville University for his first season as the team's defensive line coach in 2018. A former defensive lineman himself at the NCAA Division I level, Green boasts over 15 years of coaching experience at a variety of different levels.
Green comes to the River City from Frankfurt, Kentucky, where he served as the assistant head coach and defensive secondary at Kentucky State University last season. He spent the spring of 2018 as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.
Prior to his time as KYSU, he spent eight seasons at the United States Military Preparatory School as the defensive coordinator from 2009-17. Green helped the school to a 63-20 overall record during his tenure, and was part of three teams that beat rivals Navy Prep and Air Force Prep. He served as the interim head coach at USMAPS during the 2013 season, leading the team to a 7-1 record.
Before spending time on the east coast, Green was a member of the coaching staff at Eastern Oregon University from 2006-09, acting as the defensive line coach, as well as working with film and strength & conditioning. Green assisted in helping EOU lead the Frontier Conference in takeaways during the 2008 season, totaling 16 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles and 31 quarterback sacks, averaging 2.81 sacks per-game. Green helped develop three All-Conference lineman during his tenure, a first-team selection in 2007, and two second-team honorees in 2006 and 2008.
A native of San Diego, California, Green began his college coaching career at his alma mater, working under former Army head coach Rich Ellerson at Cal Poly. After spending two seasons as a player, he began as a student assistant, helping the defense to total 40 quarterback sacks and 11 interceptions that season.
From April 2002- August 2003, he gained international coaching experience, working as the assistant defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the Saarland Hurricanes in Germany.
Green then returned to the states in 2004, before returning to Cal Poly as a volunteer assistant. Cal Poly’s defense led the nation in rushing defense during the 2004 season, allowing opponents just 84.3 yards per-game on the ground. They also ranked ninth in scoring defense (16.6 PPG), and set single-season school records in in quarterback sacks (50) and interceptions (26), faring first and second nationally in those categories, respectively. While working with the defense, Green helped develop two future winners of the Buck Buchanan Award, given annually to the top defender in FCS football. He spent 2005 as a defensive line assistant at San Luis Obispo High School.
Green is married to Jana Green, and has a one-year-old son, Xavier.
