Greg Diggins joins Jacksonville University men's rowing as an assistant coach for the 2022-23 season.
Diggins comes to Jacksonville most recently from St. Lawrence University in Upstate New York, where he served as a graduate assistant coach last year.
In his role as graduate assistant, he developed into a well-rounded rowing coach and was heavily involved in athlete recruiting, while also providing administrative support in the form of boat maintenance, social media management, and weight room/training oversight.
Prior to his time at St. Lawrence, Diggins coached at the high-school level as both an assistant coach at The Knox School in St. James, New York, and as a head coach at Cedar Creek High School in New Jersey.
In his role as a head coach from January to May of 2021, Greg was tasked with managing both the girl’s and boy’s rowing team which included developing training programs, scheduling regattas, recruiting and hiring support staff, and coordinating the team budget.
Aside from the extensive experience Diggins gained at the high school level, he was also able to claim some solid results. In 2021, his Cedar Creek High rowing teams were able to place third in the 2021 Atlantic County Championship in the Girl’s Novice 8+ and JV4+, and also place second in the 2021 Atlantic County Championship in the Boy’s JV8+.
Prior to his coaching career, Greg was a four-year rower for the ‘Phins from 2015 to 2019, and in 2016 was able to help JU to a runner-up finish at the MAAC Championship, rowing in the two-seat of the JU Varsity 8.
When asked how he felt about a former Phin in Diggins joining the program, Head Coach Preston Weinard was excited for what Greg brings to a Dolphin program that has been consistently rising over the past few seasons.
“I'm so excited to have Greg return to our program as a graduate assistant coach this year. Greg was a big part of the student-athlete group that committed to make big changes and build our program into what it is today,” said Weinard.
As an athlete at JU, Greg was a hard worker and vocal leader. It will be great to see him stand out as a leader again in this new role,” finished Weinard.
