Jacksonville University women's basketball coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin hired Ed Mahan to fill the position of assistant coach in the fall of 2015. Mahan previously served as the Graduate Assistant- Director of Basketball Operations and Analytics at Marshall University.
With the Dolphins, he will be responsible for handling all operational activities for the program as well as developing JU's post players.
"I am excited to have Ed join our family," said McCuin. "He is a tireless worker and as loyal as they come. I have had the pleasure of working with Ed at Clemson, and when this position opened up, there was no question that he was the right person for the job."
Mahan and Coach McCuin's relationship dates back to 2010 when he served as the head student assistant for the Clemson women's basketball program and she was an assistant coach. His duties with the Tigers included coordinating travel logistics, delegating responsibilities for game day preparation and organizing and distributing team equipment. Mahan also assisted during practice and oversaw weekly and daily managerial duties of three other student managers.
During his time at Clemson, Mahan also served as webmaster. He managed and updated the team website, ClemsonLadyTigers.com, as well as corresponding blogs. He organized a new website layout for the Tigers, complete with new stories and a fresh design.
Mahan also supervised the Clemson women's basketball summer camp in 2011 and 2012, where he managed all aspects of gym operations, prepared courts for campers and addressed concerns regarding camp rules. He coached teams of 8-10 and coordinated drills during camp sessions.
After Clemson, Mahan moved on to Marshall where he was charged with handling the operational, video and analytical aspects of the program. Similar to his responsibilities at Clemson, he coordinated team travel and meals, monitored the academic progress of his student-athletes, assisted in the coordination and operation of summer camps, and analyzed analytical data on opponents.
"I'm excited to get this opportunity to reunite with Coach Yo here at JU," said Mahan. "Her passion for basketball, our student-athletes, and the Jacksonville community are qualities that I admire and strive to emulate. I look forward to bringing my love for analytics and hustle to this program that prides itself on reaching heights that others can only imagine."
The Shrewsbury, Mass., native graduated from Clemson with a degree in mathematical sciences (focus in statistics) in May 2013. He's currently pursuing his master's in sport administration from Marshall.
