Prior to his time in Texas, Calderon was at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he served as a graduate extern for student-athlete affairs and compliance. He was tasked with evaluating transcripts of incoming high school student-athletes and managing recruiting visits, as well as other promotional activities for the Owls. He earned his Master of Science in Sport Business from Temple in 2022.
A 2020 graduate of Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington, Calderon received his undergraduate degree in sport management, while competing on the track & field team and serving as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Calderon served on the game day operations staff at Central Washington and assisted in preparations for home athletics events. Also at Central Washington, he served in a marketing and promotions internship, creating schedule cards and designing in-event marketing plans for all indoor varsity athletic contests. He was instrumental in the Wildcats setting the Great Northwest Athletic Conference record for single-match attendance in volleyball.
During his senior year, he worked with the GNAC office as a championships assistant and spearheaded the Player-2-Referee Initiative within the conference, encouraging fellow student-athletes to pursue careers as officials.
