Box Score TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University baseball team tallied a 10-4 victory against Florida A&M in Tallahassee on Tuesday. The Dolphins (13-15) claim the midweek win two days prior to the Atlantic Sun conference slate with Lipscomb at John Sessions Stadium on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
The Dolphins returned to the winners circle by tacking 10 runs on the Rattlers for a momentum swing heading into a conference play featuring a four hit evening by Austin Hays (4-for-5) and three with multi-RBI efforts.
"We got a little life in our lineup after making some adjustments because it was something new," said head coach Tim Montez. "I did like the approaches we had at the plate. I thought coach Chris Hayes and coach Chuck Jeroloman did an excellent job with the hitters this week in practice with getting them back to executing on their strengths. Hays swung it really well today with Wise giving us a huge shot in the arm from the mound."
Jacksonville would break the game open in the sixth inning behind Angelo Amendolare (1-for-4) driving a two-RBI single into right field for 25 RBI on the season, 48th for his career. Hays recorded his seventh multi-hit game of the season with four singles and his 20th RBI in the fifth.
"We have to continue to grind and take better at bats, especially in advantage counts," said Montez, "It was a good win but we have to put this one behind us and get geared up for the start of conference play with a very good Lipscomb team coming to town."
JU would score two runs in the first and third frames with RBIs from Hays, Dylan Dillard with two (8th) and Sam Armstrong, who would tally 3-RBI in a game for the second time this season for his 12th. JJ Gould (1-for-3) led off the third with a deep drive to left-center field for his second triple of the season.
A career-high, redshirt-freshman Shane Wise (1-1) went 4.1 IP, fanning three through the first two innings en route to four strikeouts for the game and his first win of his young career. Gregory Shannahan, 1.2 IP, delivered no-hit frames in the sixth and seventh with three strikeouts. The freshman has 32 K's in 31.2 innings pitched this season.
Batting in the 2-spot, Drew Luther (1-for-4) lined a single in the first inning and finished the game with two runs scored, while in his fourth start, Casey Cribb (1-for-5) knocked a single and scored a run.
