Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University baseball team clobbered Bethune-Cookman in a midweek matchup on Tuesday evening, 16-0 at John Sessions Stadium. The Dolphins (17-19; 3-3) had four players with multi-hit efforts, with nine players recording RBI as they jump back into conference play with a River City Rivalry against North Florida Friday through Sunday.
Lightning would impose upon John Sessions Stadium in the bottom-half of the eighth inning, forcing the coaches and umpires to make the decision to call the game. It was the third time this season the Dolphins have scored 15 runs or more, twice against a MEAC opponent (Coppin State 2/21/15).
"We like how the guys responded after a tough series on the road against FGCU this past weekend," said head coach Tim Montez. "It's still a long road ahead, but we had good at-bats from a lot of guys both in the lineup and off the bench and the pitching staff did well to pound the zone and get out of some innings with traffic. We have a big matchup this weekend and can't be stagnant—we have to clean up some things and get ready for a very good North Florida team."
Sam Armstrong (2-for-2) led the eruption, beginning in the first frame with a grand slam to right-center field, his second-straight game recording a home run. Cameron Gibson (2-for-3)would drive in three on the night behind two singles and score three runs. The one-two punch of Angelo Amendolare (2-for-4) and Connor Marabell (1-for-3) had back-to-back doubles in an eight-run fourth with RBI, the most runs scored in an inning by the Dolphins this season.
Parker Perez (1-1), Nathan Disch and Ryan Quintero combined for the shutout on the mound, allowing four hits and stranding eight Wildcats on base. Tuesday marked the third shutout recorded by the staff this season.
Drew Luther (2-for-4) grabbed his seventh multi-hit game along with his 17th RBI, while Austin Hays (1-for-2) knocked his seventh double of the season and scored two runs. Seth Dewitt (1-for-1) had a pinch-hit, two-RBI single in the fourth for his first RBIs of the season.
Nathan Koslowski (1-for-4) and Dylan Dillard (1-for-1) also drove in a run in the game, as the loss was charged to Sidney Duprey (0-4) as the Wildcats used six pitchers in the midweek contest.
